Who am I

Amanda Currie brings over 20 years of distinguished service within the UK Prison Service, where she played a pivotal role in advancing equality and inclusion for LGBTQ+ staff and prisoners alike. Her career has been defined by a commitment to improving understanding, fostering representation, and challenging prejudice on both sides of the prison walls.

As an active member of GALIPS (Gay and Lesbians in the Prison Service), Amanda designed and delivered nationwide awareness sessions and talks aimed at enhancing senior management and staff understanding of LGBTQ+ issues and the unique challenges faced by the community within the prison environment. Her expertise and lived experience as an out lesbian officer informed her work, ensuring meaningful dialogue and lasting impact.

Amanda’s leadership and advocacy extended to prominent platforms, including keynote appearances at national conferences such as the Annual National Bisexual Conference in London. She has also provided advisory sessions for the Rainbow Network in Nottingham, offering insight into the realities of workplace discrimination and supporting the network in providing effective guidance to the public.

Dedicated to increasing visibility and representation, Amanda spearheaded targeted recruitment drives for the LGBTQ+ community through local and national events, recognising the importance of diversity within the prison service. Her passion for equality continues to drive her mission to create safer, more inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals both inside and outside the justice system.
